Ford opens preorder invites for the $30,000 Fathom EV pickup

Want to be among the first to own Ford’s new EV pickup? You can now sign up for a preorder invite for the upcoming $30,000 Ford Fathom.

Ford Fathom preorder invites go live

Although preorders for the Fathom won’t officially open until early 2027, Ford is now inviting interested buyers to sign up for a preorder invite and become one of the first to own its all-new electric pickup.

The Fathom will start at $28,350 for the standard range battery model, or about half as much as the F-150 Lightning, Ford’s first attempt at an electric pickup. Even with the $1,595 destination fee, it will still start at under $30,000.

As the first model based on its new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, Ford promises the Fathom will be a step change from its first-generation EVs.

Ford has yet to announce driving range figures, towing capability, and other key specs, but it did reveal a few details about the upcoming EV pickup.

For one, Ford previously said the Fathom will offer more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, and that’s not including the frunk or truck bed. The company also claims it will cost less to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.

The interior will feature a “large touchscreen display” and will be the first to have Apple Maps directly integrated into the navigation system.

Other standard features include a Digital Key, Ford app remote control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

All Ford Fathom models will be BlueCruise-capable for hands-free highway driving and will offer bidirectional charging capability.

It will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries to cut costs and vehicle weight, while also opening up interior space.

The cobalt-free and nickel-free LFP battery pack serves as the vehicle’s floor. As such, the low center of gravity improves handling and creates a quieter, more spacious interior.

The low center of gravity, instant torque, and “obsessive chassis engineering” will make it fun to drive, Ford promises.

With even more downforce, Ford said the Fathom will have a targeted 0 to 60 mph time as fast as a Mustang EcoBoost.

Ford describes the Fathom as a “midsize, four-door electric pickup,” but the prototypes spotted testing appear to be about the size of a Maverick, which is generally considered a compact truck. Again, we’ll have to wait until closer to launch for final dimensions.

We also know Ford’s upcoming EV pickup will have an NACS port after a few test mules were captured at a Tesla Supercharger over the summer.

"It will use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries to cut costs and vehicle weight,"

Uh no. LFP weighs more per kwh not less.

Ford will officially open Fathom preorders in early 2027. The first Fathom prototypes are scheduled to roll off the production line at its 3-million-square-foot Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP) in 2027, with deliveries expected to begin later in the year.

CEO Jim Farley admitted at the 2026 Automotive News Congress a few weeks ago that “It’s going to be a heck of an effort to launch this at scale, at cost, on time.”

A Ford spokesperson confirmed with Electrek, however, that “We’ve said previously, ‘Fathom will launch in 2027’ – and there is no change to that.”

We should learn more about Ford’s upcoming EV pickup soon. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
