Ford is giving EV buyers a free home charger and more as part of its new ‘Power Promise’

Buy a new Ford EV and get a free home charger as part of its new “Ford Power Promise.” The program is designed to finally put the EV misperceptions to rest while making it even easier to go electric.

It’s “not range anxiety, but change anxiety,” Martin Delonis, Ford’s senior manager of business innovation and E-Marketing, explained.

After some digging, Ford found that buyers on the fence about driving an EV are mostly worried about how far it will drive, its costs, and its quality.

However, most of the concerns are far from true. For example, Ford found that most electric vehicles have a lower ownership cost than a comparable gas-powered car.

Range anxiety is another worry, but Ford’s F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E (and many EVs) offer over 300 miles EPA-estimated range.

To alleviate those concerns, the company launched its new “Ford Power Promise” program. The initiative aims to close the gap between perceptions about EVs and the reality. Ford is addressing five areas: Range, Charging, Battery Health, Home Charging, and Timing.

Ford offers a free home EV charger as a Power Promise

Starting October 1, 2024 all new Ford electric vehicle buyers (F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit) will receive a free home EV charger. To sweeten the deal, Ford also covers standard installation costs. The offer is Ford’s way of making it easier for drivers to transition to electric.

Following a 2024 survey, Ford found that 89% of EV shoppers are more likely to purchase if they have home charging. Meanwhile, 92% of owners find that charging at home is as easy as charging their phones.

According to Ford, most drivers don’t realize the true benefits of driving an EV. One of the biggest is waking up to a full charge every day with the ability to charge at home.

Home charging is one of the biggest conveniences of EV ownership. Nice to see Ford begin to market that advantage.

Ford EV drivers also have access to its BlueOval Charge network, the largest in North America with over 75,000 chargers. They can also charge on Tesla’s Supercharge network with an NACS adapter.

Although built to last, Ford is offering an 8-year, 100,000-battery warranty to ease concerns over battery health.
