Tesla is expanding in Czech Republic and Iceland

Tesla is gradually expanding its presence in Europe and they are adding locations in Czech Republic and Iceland.

The automaker is already covering most of Europe, but there are still many smaller European auto markets where Tesla is not directly selling and servicing its vehicles — mainly in Eastern Europe.

In the Czech Republic, there are already over 400 Tesla vehicles, most of them around Prague, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Those Tesla owners had to buy and service their cars in other neighboring countries.

Now, Tesla is now launching a service center in Prague and it will also use the location to deliver vehicles sold directly to costumers in the Czech Republic.

They are just now ramping up operations at the new location.

Tomáš Novotný, the service manager, told LN:

“We have technicians from other European service centers who carry out training and basic repairs and servicing,”

On its career website, Tesla is listing 3 service jobs currently available in Prague.

Along with the new expansion in the Czech Republic, Tesla is also expanding in Iceland.

The market is in a similar situation as the Czech Republic whereas they already have many owners who bought Tesla vehicles by importing them in the country.

In 2017, those owners even made a plea to Tesla to have a service center:

Tesla started sending them mobile technicians on occasions, but it was a less than ideal solution.

Last year, Elon Musk said that Tesla will accelerate its market entry in Iceland.

Now Tesla is expanding with the country with a service and sale location. According to its career website, Tesla is looking for several service and sale employees for a new store and service center in Reykjavik.

Iceland is perfect for massive adoption of electric vehicles. The island’s electricity generation is already almost 100% renewable, which makes EVs super clean, and being a remote island, petrol is expensive.

Albeit being sparsely populated with only ~350,000 people, there’s a significant concentration of population around Reykjavík and people have relatively short commutes that can be covered with most electric vehicles.

It helped the country increase EV sales over the last few years and while we are only talking about a few thousand plug-in sales last year, it represents over 15% of total cars sales in the country, which is higher than in most other markets around the world.

Tesla officially selling its vehicles in the market is likely going to help signifcantly increase EV adoption in the country.
