Penske debuts fast speed charging stations for commercial electric trucks

Penske Truck Leasing launched charging stations at four of its Southern California facilities, which the company believes are “the first DC fast charging stations in the U.S. designed specifically for heavy-duty commercial electric vehicles.”

Penske announced that it has added 14 fast chargers to the facilities in total. It plans on adding “at least” six more such chargers in the near future for a total of 20.

The chargers are currently located at Penske facilities in San Diego, Chino, Anaheim, and La Mirada. The 50 kW to 150 kW chargers can power “an all-electric class 8 tractor from zero to 100% charge in less than half a shift,” Penske said. Penske Truck Leasing president and CEO Brian Hard said,

“We’re committed to being at the forefront of commercial vehicle electrification. We are investing to ensure our customers have access to the right vehicles, technology, charging infrastructure and information to help shape the future of mobility in our industry.”

Penske used a Daimler eCascadia semi-truck as part of its charging demonstration during the ribbon-cutting event debuting the chargers. Daimler Trucks North America recently announced that it’s converting its Portland factory to make all-electric trucks like the eCascadia and eM2.
