Tesla cars being shipped to Europe

Tesla is preparing to ship a massive number of Tesla vehicles to Europe as part of its expansion of Model 3 sales on the old continent.

As we reported earlier this month, Tesla received its first massive shipment of Model 3 vehicles at the Zeebrugge port for European deliveries, which started a day later.

CEO Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla experienced some difficulties handling the shipment at the port.

Later, we learned that Tesla ended its third-party contract to prepare Model 3 vehicles for delivery in Europe at the port in order to handle the task themselves.

The automaker has since been trying to ramp up its delivery effort in Europe and Musk announced last night that Tesla had around 4,000 cars ready to ship to Europe.

He shared this impressive picture of the vehicles sitting at the port of San Francisco before being loaded into the boat:

At a conservative average of $50,000 per vehicle, that’s $200 million worth of Tesla cars parked at the San Francisco port.

There are already several other shipments underway to Europe and China.

Musk tried to put the rate at which Tesla is producing into the context of the company’s production timeline:

Of course, the CEO meant to say “0 cars” aside from the Roadster and 500,000 vehicles should be the production rate by the end of the year and not the total production in 2019.

Tesla has roughly doubled its production capacity every year for the past 5 years.

Electrek’s Take

That’s an impressive picture.

It’s basically a week of Model 3 production into a single picture and just about a year ago, it would have been several months worth of production for Tesla.

I know we often give Tesla a tough time for their production delays, but we have to admit that it is some impressive growth represented in this picture.
