Renault expands its lineup of all-electric commercial vehicles, unveils new Master Z.E. with 120 miles of range

Renault had some success with electric cars thanks to the ZOE, but now the French automaker is making a push in all-electric commercial vehicles with a new version of the Kangoo Z.E. cargo van and a new full-size commercial van called Master Z.E.

The company had already confirmed that the new Kangoo Z.E. was getting a new battery pack for 50% more range.

We now know that the new battery pack has a capacity of 33 kWh and it will be the same for the new Master Z.E.

Renault claims an increase from 170 km to 270 km (105 miles to 168 miles) in range on a single charge. That’s on the NEDC European cycle and therefore, it shouldn’t be too representative of real-world range, but it isn’t exactly bad for the use cases of a cargo van.

it will go on sale in Europe in mid-2017.

Due to its larger size, the Master Z.E. gets a shorter range of 200 NEDC-rated km (124 miles) on the same pack.

Renault listed some use cases for the new van:

“This electric version of Master is aimed primarily at fleets running last-mile distribution services in the city, as well as large municipalities and local government. This heavy van’s load characteristics, range and charge time are tailored to the needs of business customers in and around cities.”

It is equipped with a 57 kW/76 hp motor and a 7 kW onboard charger.

The new van should be available a little later than the smaller Kangoo Z.E. cargo van. Renault expects it to go on sale in “late 2017”. There’s no detail about pricing yet.
