All eyes on Tesla ahead of the mysterious product unveil today

Tesla was able to stop any information from leaking ahead of the product unveiling today, which makes today’s event a rare exception when it comes to Tesla unveilings and it doesn’t help to suppress any kind of hype or speculation.

All we know for a fact is that it is a “new Tesla product” or at least that’s how the company referred to it on Twitter. We also know that CEO Elon Musk thinks that it is “unexpected by most”.

Finally, we also know that it needed “a few more days of refinement” on Sunday. Though Musk might have been referring to the unveiling or a demo and not the product itself.

That’s about the extent of what we know for sure about the upcoming product unveil today.

Tesla will be releasing more information about the logistics of the unveiling this morning and we expect a press call to follow.

Update: Tesla to make product announcement at 5pm PT (8pm ET – 12am UTC) followed by Q&A

tesla-17-event-poll-resultAs for the hype and speculation, last week we polled our readers with a few possible options for the product and you guys believe it most likely has to do with Autopilot 2.0 or Tesla Vision with ‘Tesla Glass‘ coming in second.

We did the same thing ahead of the P100D announcement and you guys got it right, but there were significantly more hints ahead of that announcement.

We’ve received a ton of tips that we weren’t able to confirm. They ranged from being about most of the options in the poll, like ‘Tesla Vision’ and ‘Tesla Glass’, and more “out there” possibilities that could more accurately fit Musk’s description of the product as “unexpected by most”, like a Tesla bank or a VTOL electric aircraft.

We were not able to confirm any of those as Tesla has recently been taking precautions against information leaking apparently in preparation for this event.

Just hours before the reveal, I’m still not sure on what I would bet. Though I’m leaning toward ‘Tesla Vision’ and ‘Tesla Glass’ like the majority of Electrek readers.

What is the over-under on ‘Tesla Vision’?
