Tesla Model X deliveries surge in the Netherlands, now even the King is riding in one

The ramp up in Model X production significantly contributed to Tesla’s record-breaking quarter for deliveries in Q3. A lot of those Model Xs went to Europe for the first time. We already reported on an impressive number of the all-electric SUV going to Norway, but quite a few also ended up in the Netherlands.

It’s so popular that now even the King of the Netherlands is apparently riding in one.

In a recent visit to his mother at the hospital in Schiedam, a new vehicle was spotted in King Willem-Alexander’s convoy: a brand new Tesla Model X, as first spotted by Autoblog.nl.

You may not be a fan of constitutional monarchy, but if you are a fan of EVs, it’s still nice to see royal influence being used to promote electric vehicles.

The other vehicle in the convoy is an Audi A6.

The King’s Model X is just one of 228 Model Xs in the country. Deliveries started in July, but really only picked up last month when Tesla delivered 201 Model Xs, according to registration data.

Tesla has an important presence in the Netherlands. Last year, the automaker inaugurated an impressive 840,000 sq-ft facility in Tilburg to perform final assemblies on the Model S and now Model X, and they re-purposed the other factory they have in the country into a distribution and service center. Tesla’s European headquarters are also located in Amsterdam.
