It was expected for a while now considering the company has been installing Supercharger stations in Spain since the beginning of the year, but now we learn that Tesla is finally launching a retail presence in the country to sell and service its vehicles.
On its career website, Tesla is now listing sales jobs for stores in Madrid and Barcelona. The company is looking for Product Specialists and Sales Advisors. Among their responsibilities, they will “launch Model X sales and grow them consistently” and “assist with the organisation and implementation of multiple events supporting Model S and Model X sales in their market.”
Spain is only the latest in a series of countries Tesla has been expanding into this year. Others include Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Tesla will likely have a presence in New Zealand by the end of the year as we learned recently.
Spain is not the biggest automotive market that Tesla has been expanding into this year, but it’s still a significant market in Europe. The recent economic crisis was hard on the country’s automotive market, which took a long time to grow again, but it grew 42% since 2012 to reach just over 1 million new car sales last year.
Tesla’s expansion in Spain is expected to soon reach Portugal, where Tesla officials recently visited the government to establish a presence in the country after pleas from local owners.
