Tesla Model Y visualized with unofficial renderings

The Model Y is the second vehicle Tesla plans to release on its third generation platform – with the Model 3 being the first. There’s no official timeline for when the automaker plans to bring it to market, but it is expected to follow not too far behind the Model 3, which set for a release in late 2017.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted last year that the Model Y will have Falcon Wing doors like the Model X, which leads us to beleive the Model Y will be a crossover or small SUV version of the Model 3.

An amateur car designer from the Netherland, Remco Meulendijk, produced renderings of what the Model Y could look like based on the Model 3.

While the renderings are a little rough, I think the Model 3 looks pretty good as a crossover.

Like the Model X not being much bigger than the Model S, it will be interesting to see what Tesla can do with the Model Y if it ends up not being much bigger than the Model 3. It would be difficult to introduce thrid row seats.

The shape doesn’t look that different, but the Model 3’s B pillar is already failry high for a sedan, which is why it translate so easily into a small crossover shape.

Changing the door handles to the other side, like they are on the Model X’s Falcon Wing doors, would have been a nice touch, but other than that I like the look. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
