Kia’s Sportage-sized electric SUV hits the big stage in these six countries [Video]

The EV5 is about the same size as Kia’s best-seller, the Sportage, but it’s designed to feel much roomier. With the electric SUV launching globally, Kia is partnering with Netflix to hype it up.

Kia’s new midsize electric SUV has it all: long-range capabilities, super-fast charging, a spacious, tech-filled interior, and plenty more.

To prove it, Kia has teamed up with Netflix to launch a new creative film series that puts the EV5 in the middle of a crime scene.

The short film (you can watch it below) “The Kia EV5 x Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” places Kia’s electric SUV at the center of the story, showcasing its spaciousness and comfort. Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man is the third film in the mystery-thriller series featuring Daniel Craig (you know, James Bond) as a famous detective.

Kia is launching the campaign in six countries where the EV5 will be available, including Korea, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

This is the second partnership between Kia and Netflix. The first was for Squid Game: Season 2, featuring the new Sportage.

On December 4, Kia opened EV5 orders in Canada, with prices ranging from $43,495 CAD for the base Light model to $61,495 CAD for the flagship AWD GT-Line Limited edition.

It’s available with 60.4 kWh or 81.4 kWh battery packs, delivering 335 km (208 miles) and 460 km (285 miles) of driving range. In Europe, the Kia EV5 is offered with the same battery packs, but is rated at WLTP ranges of 400 km (248 mi) and 530 km (329 mi), respectively.

The base Kia EV5 Air starts at £39,295 ($53,000), on-the-road (OTR) in the UK. In South Korea, Kia’s Sportage-sized electric SUV starts at around 48.55 million won ($35,000).

Measuring 4,610 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the EV5 is about 10 mm wider, 70 mm longer, and 30 mm taller than the Kia Sportage.

Thanks to its extended wheelbase, the electric SUV offers “best-in-class” rear passenger space with up to 1,041 mm of second-row legroom.

The interior features nearly 30″ of display screen space in a panoramic display with Kia’s new connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) infotainment system. The setup includes dual 12.3″ driver cluster and navigation screens, plus a 5″ climate control display.

Sadly, Kia is not planning to launch the EV5 in the US. The electric SUV is exclusive to Canada in the North American market. It will even feature a built-in NACS port in Canada to recharge at Tesla Superchargers.
