Jaguar’s new +$100,000 luxury EV that took the internet by storm will cost even more

Jaguar is turning heads again. Love it or hate it, Jaguar’s new luxury EV will mark a new chapter in the British automaker’s storied history. After unveiling the radical all-electric GT concept last week, Jaguar was once again the center of attention. Although its new ultra-luxury EV lineup was expected to cost around $130,000 (£100,000), Jag’s CEO revealed it will actually be significantly more.

Jaguar’s new EV lineup will cost upwards of $200,000

Jaguar Land Rover previously said Jag’s new EV lineup would be priced above £100,000 ($130,000), but CEO Adrian Mardell now claims it will cost even more.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times (Via EuroNews), Mardell said getting your hands on one would likely cost around £150,000, or almost $200,000.

Jaguar introduced the Type 00 concept at Miami Art Week, a preview of the brand’s new design. It’s also drastically different from the Jag vehicles of the past, with a wide, aggressive face and low-riding silhouette.

According to Jag, the concept is “an example of Jaguar at its best.” Jaguar called it “a fearless statement.” And that it is. Jaguar’s redefining vehicle stirred the internet crowd, drawing mixed opinions on social media. Some praised Jag’s bold new direction, while many poked fun, calling it Pink Panther or Barbie Dream Car.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Lucid Motors were among many who took the opportunity to tease the brand. Musk responded to Jaguar’s post on X revealing the new EV, saying, “Do you sell cars?”

Jaguar will stop building most current models by the end of the year as it prepares to release a trio of new ultra-luxury electric vehicles.

Mardell said the company will spend around £1.5 billion ($1.9 billion) developing its new EV lineup over the next five years.

The first, an electric 4-door GT, will be revealed in late 2025, and sales are expected to start in mid-2026. Based on its new JEA (Jaguar Electric Architecture), Jaguar expects an EPA range of 430 miles (692 km) and a WLTP range of up to 478 miles (770 km).

Electrek’s Take

Jaguar needs an extreme shakeup to revamp the brand, but will the Type 00 do it? The almost $200,000 price tag may also be a hard sell.

I think it looks fine. Better than the harsh criticism it's seeing. Almost Rolls Royce like. Definitely will stand out.

It's a stark change from Jag of the last 40+ years. But I can see some parallels to the old XJ-S and even older 2+2coupes(pre etype)

$200,000 is high. But I think it will be popular with the customer base it's looking to capture. It's got pro athlete purchase written all over it.

The 100-year-old British automaker wants to attract new younger buyers, but it will face stiff competition. Luxury EVs from Tesla, Lucid, and several others from China are already stealing away buyers. By 2026, a new wave of electric models is expected to hit the market, which could make it even harder for Jag to compete.

Jaguar’s radical new EV stole the spotlight, and the company has received more attention in the past two weeks than it has in over 20 years.

The automaker is embracing the spotlight now, but Jag will need to stay relevant for the next few years as it preps for a reboot.

Can Jaguar revamp the brand with its new luxury EV lineup priced upwards of $200,000? Let us know what you think in the comments.
