GM halts shipments and recalls nearly 15,000 Cadillac electric SUVs

GM halted shipments and issued a recall for nearly 15,000 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs. The recall is due to faulty third-row seats that could trap passengers, similar to the issue with the Hyundai Palisade.

Why is GM recalling the Cadillac Vistiq?

While the extra third row is nice to have for big families, it can also apparently be dangerous. GM is recalling 14,540 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs because the power third-row seating may malfunction and trap the passenger.

In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on July 1, GM said that “a person, especially a child, may be trapped by a rear powered seatback, increasing the risk of injury.”

The recall impacts 13,629 2026 Cadillac Vistiqs and another 911 2027 model years, 100% of which are estimated to have the defect.

Interestingly, GM said it launched an investigation in March following the “announcement of a recall by a different vehicle manufacturer,” related to the same issue.

While it wasn’t specified, the March 2026 recall GM is referring to is more than likely Hyundai. Hyundai issued a recall and stop sale for the 2026 Palisade SUV after a two-year-old in Ohio died after becoming trapped in the back seat.

GM is aware of six other incidents or complaints associated with the defect, but none have resulted in an injury.

Cadillac Vistiq owners can take their affected vehicles to the nearest dealer, where the folding third-row seat module will be disabled and replaced free of charge until replacement parts are available. Once the parts are available, the dealer will reinstall and update the feature, free of charge.

GM halted shipments of the 2027 Cadillac Vistiq on June 8, 2026. Since production of the 2026 model is already complete, these vehicles will require the remedy for third-row power seating.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 3, 2026. You can contact Cadillac’s customer service at 1-800-333-4223 with questions. The recall number is N262555780.

Vistiq owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Administration Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or visit NHTSA.gov for more information. The NHTSA Campaign Number is 26V394.
