Range Rover’s next electric SUV is bringing an entirely new look inside and out

The electric Range Rover Velar will look nothing like the gas-powered SUV on sale today. With its debut nearing, the Velar EV was spotted with a sleek fastback-like design and a bigger infotainment screen on the inside.

Range Rover preps for Velar EV debut in 2026

While Range Rover is expected to launch its flagship electric SUV this year, the British luxury brand is already preparing for another EV.

The Velar is like the Apple store of the Range Rover lineup, with sleek styling, a high-tech cabin, and a minimalist feel, filling the gap between the smaller Sport and Evoque models.

For its second generation, set to debut later this year, the Velar is bringing more than just an all-electric powertrain.

We caught a sneak peek of it in 2024 after a camouflaged prototype was spotted arriving at JLR’s Nurburgring test facility. A few weeks ago, new images from Autocar showed the Velar with less camouflage, confirming the sleek new look.

The Range Rover Velar EV looks closer to the Jaguar Type 00 concept or Polestar 4 than the current gas-powered SUV.

It appears that the radical makeover won’t be exclusive to the exterior. The interior is also getting an overhaul, as the latest images from Carscoops reveal.

The Velar EV appears to feature an entirely new dash, infotainment system, and steering wheel. Although it’s still covered, a large touchscreen infotainment system sits at the center, with dedicated icons for climate control and other functions at the bottom, along with a smaller, separate driver-cluster display.

While JLR has yet to reveal any details, the electric Range Rover Velar is expected to be among the first vehicles underpinned by its new EMA platform, unlike the flagship EV that shares the MLA platform with the current ICE model.

The Range Rover Electric will be equipped with a 117 kWh battery and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain, delivering a combined 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.

Former JLR CEO Adrian Mardell previously said that “We’ll first have MLA BEV, with the Range Rover BEV,” he added, ‘Then it’s the first vehicle off EMA, which will probably be springtime in 2026.”

However, that was also over a year ago, and the company has since delayed several EVs, including the flagship Range Rover Electric.

The Range Rover Velar EV is expected to make its official debut by the end of 2026, following the flagship electric SUV.

Production is scheduled to begin at JLR’s Halewood facility in 2027, where it will be joined by the Defender Sport EV (which was also recently spotted testing).
