Tesla hosts hundreds of students for ‘Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day’ at 8 facilities

Tesla is hosting today hundreds of students at 8 of its facilities across the in US in partnership with Envirolution for ‘Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day’.

Last year, the automaker participated in the national movement, which aims “to show girls how engineering can be a great career choice and a great way to change the world, and it hosted 60 girls at Gigafactory 1 in Nevada.

Now, Tesla is expanding its participation in the program significantly this year by organizing events at 8 facilities for about 200 students.

The company says about the effort:

“With females making up only a fraction of the engineering workforce in the U.S., Tesla is committed to increasing female students’ exposure to manufacturing and engineering.”

The events were held at Tesla’s Gigafactory, Fremont factory and locations in Livermore, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas.

About 80 Tesla employees are volunteering to create “creating a fun, engaging experience, activities are hands-on and explore different fields in engineering.”

Today, they are helping students learn about different engineering fields through projects like “building a simple motor (electrical), suspension bridge (civil) or balloon-propelled car (mechanical).”
