Tesla wants to deter break-ins with music and ‘Rick and Morty’ Easter Egg

Tesla has been putting more effort into security lately after their vehicles appear to have been targeted in an ongoing series of break-ins in the Bay Area.

CEO Elon Musk has been promising a ‘Sentry Mode’ and he has now added a musical twist and a ‘Rick and Morty’ Easter Egg.

Last year, Tesla introduced its over-the-air dashcam feature using an Autopilot camera, but the system has many limitations, like only using the front-facing camera.

Musk has been talking about enabling the use of more Autopilot cameras and have a parking mode.

Last week, Musk said that it would be coming soon and started referring to the new 360° dashcam surveillance feature as Tesla’s ‘Sentry Mode’.

Last night, the CEO said that a Tesla detecting a robbery would blast Bach’s Toccata and Fugue, a famous organ piece often used in horror movies:

Musk also said that they could also use “keep Summer safe”, which appears to be a reference to a scene in the popular animated show Rick and Morty where a vehicle’s AI goes on a killing spree in order to protect its occupant:

Tesla has been known to include Easter Eggs in its vehicle software, but it sounds like Musk is also serious about using audio as part of its security system.

Over the past few months, Tesla vehicles have been subject to a series of break-ins and owners have been trying to find solutions.

Last month, Tesla started offering and installing a new Enhanced Anti-Theft system that would help prevent those break-ins, but it’s currently only available for Model S and Model X.

Model 3 is also being affected by the break-ins.

This new ‘Tesla Sentry Mode’ could potentially help prevent those break-ins and Musk said that it would be released in all vehicles equipped with Autopilot 2.0+ hardware.

The CEO says that Tesla is aiming for a “beta release” in the next “2 to 3 weeks.”
