As we reported earlier this week, Tesla appears to be behind on the development of its version 9 software update.
Now CEO Elon Musk says that they are aiming to release the software update “toward the end of the month.”
Originally, Musk said that they were aiming to push the update to its early access program owners (beta testers) by the end of August in order to be able to release it to the broader fleet a few weeks later (early to mid September).
But now in early September, the update has yet to make it the early access program.
Early this morning, Musk said on Twitter that they are now aiming to push the update to beta testers in “a week or two” in order to have a wider fleet release around the end of the month:
Am running it in my car, but it’s not right yet. Hopefully, will release to advanced early access users in a week or two, then more broadly towards end of month.

The CEO is apparently running the new software on his own car, but it is not working “right”.
As we reported earlier this week, an early alpha version of the update leaked – showing that the update primarily features a UI refresh to harmonize Model S/X UI with the Model 3 UI.
Most of the new features that are supposed to be in the update were not in the leaked version.
Version 9 is also expected to feature important improvements to the Autopilot features, especially for owners with the Enhanced Autopilot package who are supposed to finally get the Autopilot ‘On Ramp/Off Ramp’ feature.
The update is expected to represent the biggest step change for Tesla’s software in 2 years since the release of version 8.
We will keep following the development of the update and report back when we have more information.
