BMW is trying to hype the unveiling of its Vision iNext next-gen electric car set for next week.
Today, they released the first new teaser images and video of the concept vehicle – giving us our first good look at the electric car.
Very little is known about the iNEXT at this point beyond that it will be an electric vehicle inspired by the recent Vision NEXT concepts unveiled by the German premium brand over the last few years.
Last year, BMW’s head of sales and marketing, Ian Robertson, casted doubts on Tesla’s ability to produce Model 3 in volume at $35,000 and in the process, he said that the iNext would be the real competitor in the segment.
It gave us an indication that the vehicle could be priced similarly to the base Model 3 and also be a midsize, 3 series-ish sedan.
The production version is expected to be unveiled in 2021, but we should see the concept version, Vision iNEXT, next week.
But it seems like automakers can’t stop themselves with teasers and like Mercedes-Benz with the EQC yesterday, BMW has released a very revealing teaser of the Vision iNext – giving us our first good look at the vehicle:
While the video is edited so that we can barely see the vehicle, it’s another thing if you use freeze-frame and tweak the exposure a little.
It gives a very good look at the form-factor of the BMW Vision iNext:
We can see that it is more of a crossover than a sedan – meaning that it is sitting a little higher.
There’s not much else to discern from the images other than the usual ‘electric design accents’ reminiscent of BMW ‘i’ models:
BMW plans to unveil the vehicle in a Boeing 777F from the Lufthansa Cargo fleet that will start its journey in Munich on September 9th and go to New York. After New York, it will fly to San Francisco, Beijing, and then Frankfurt on September 14th.
