BMW teases upcoming all-electric iX3 SUV ahead of launch

BMW is expected to soon launch the BMW iX3, its first all-electric vehicle since the BMW i3 in 2013, at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show.

The company today teased the vehicle for the first time ahead of the launch.

Last month, Harald Krüger, BMW’s CEO, made the announcement about the imminent launch of the car – along with a series of other EVs:

“Over the course of the year, we will present a number of pure-electric concept vehicles that will all go into series production, like: The first all-electric BMW – the iX3. Our new technology flagship, the BMW iNEXT, the captivating BMW i Vision Dynamics, which I just announced in Geneva as the BMW i4. We will produce both the iNEXT and the BMW i4 in Germany. These models are proof of our innovative strength.”

Now BMW released this teaser of the vehicle’s fascia in a few different colors:

Not much is known about the iX3 at this point, but it is expected to be a long-range all-electric SUV comparable in size and design with the BMW X3.

It will join the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi E-Tron Quattro as the first all-electric SUVs to compete in the popular mid-size utility segment.

BMW sells about 40,000 X3 vehicles per year in the US alone and a similar quantity in all the European markets combined.

The new electric variant will be unveiled next week, but it is not expected to make it to market until 2020.
