The relatively small city of Bourcherville in Quebec is not particularly known for its automotive industry, but it is the home of Campagna, the maker of the T-Rex, a popular two-seater with three wheels. Interestingly, another startup has sprung up in the city and it apparently aimed to build its own three-wheeler, but with an electric drivetrain.
Girfalco, which was founded only earlier this year by three Quebecers with experience in design and engineering, is developing the ‘Azkarra’, an all-electric two-seater built on an open-top three-wheel platform.
The base version of the Azkarra is equipped with a single 75 kW motor powering the rear wheel, but the company claims it could achieve an acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds due to its low weight of 480 kg (~1,050 lbs).
The performance version of the vehicle, which Girfalco is calling ‘Azkarra S’, is equipped with a second electric motor powering the front wheels for a total peak power output of 225 kW. The company claims it could bring the 0 to 62 mph acceleration down to only 2.5 seconds.
The startup didn’t reveal anything about the battery pack, but it claims that each version can achieve a range of about 125 miles (~200 km).
The vehicles will retail for around the same price as the T-Rex. The Azkarra starts at $67,500 CAD ($51,000 USD) and the Azkarra S starts at $97,500 CAD ($74,000). The company is only planning to make about 100 units starting next year.
They released several images of the concept yesterday:
