Every type of ground transport is gradually being converted to electric propulsion and even some special utility service vehicles.

Today, Kreisel Electric, a small Austria-based startup known for their impressive electric vehicle conversions, unveiled a new all-electric fire engine.

They built a fully functional albeit small fire engine vehicle based on the Mercedes Sprinter in partnership with Rosenbauer and LINZ AG.

Markus Kreisel, CEO of Kreisel Electric, said that utility vehicles, like fire engines, are ideal for electric propulsion:

“Utility vehicles such as fire trucks are an ideal area of application for electric drives: in many cases, they only have to cover short distances and charging can be done between uses. I am particularly thinking of stations in the districts of large inner cities, in town centers and small communities in the countryside or at airports.”

The company converted the vehicle with a 620 kg battery pack with a 86 kWh energy capacity which they claim can enable up to 160 km (~100 miles) of range on a single charge.

It is also equipped with a 120 kW permanent magnet electric motor.

It can be charged both overnight on level 2 or quickly with DC fast-charging through a CCS plug.

Kreisel’s main business is to develop battery packs for electric vehicles and to showcase their tech, they made impressive EV conversions like a VW e-Golf with a 55 kWh battery pack and s $1 million classic Porsche 910.

They have also made a few electric vehicles for Arnold Schwarzenegger: a custom all-electric Mercedes G-Class  and an all-electric Hummer.
