Porsche greenlights all-electric Taycan CUV for production based on stunning Mission E Cross Turismo concept

Porsche’s board has officially given the greenlight to bring an all-electric CUV version of the Taycan to production based on the Mission E Cross Turismo concept unveiled earlier this year.

We had a pretty good idea that it was happening due to the vastly positive reaction to the concept, which Porsche itself acknowledged in March.

Now a few months later, the German automaker has confirmed that the board approved the vehicle for series production in a quick release today:

“The second electric athlete from Zuffenhausen: At its meeting on 18 October, the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG gave the green light for series production of the concept study Mission E Cross Turismo.”

The company didn’t specify a production timeline, but the vehicle is expected to arrive after the Taycan sedan, which is set to enter production late next year.

In terms of specs, it is based on the Taycan and therefore, it is expected to have very similar specs.

Based on the concept version, the company has previously been talking about a 0 to 60 mph acceleration in less than 3.5 seconds.

The vehicle is expected to have a range of over 250 miles and like the Taycan, the most impressive feature is arguably the 800-volt system. It is double the voltage of most EVs and should allow a charge rate of up to 350 kW, which could charge the car up to 80% in only 15 minutes.

Electrek’s Take

Like the original Mission E, the concept version was simply stunning. It would have been shameful not to bring the vehicle to market.

Not only that, but Porsche has also been doing a lot of work and investments in developing what so far appears to be an impressive all-electric powertrain. It makes sense to leverage that into more models.

We now know for sure that the Taycan electric platform is going to be used for three production vehicles: the Taycan sedan, the Taycan CUV, and the yet-to-be-unveiled Audi e-tron GT.

The closer it comes to release, the more I think that this could end up being a very important electric vehicle.
