Tesla updates Model S and Model X with new interior finish

Tesla has introduced a few minor updates to the Model S and Model X interior with a new finish option available today.

Here we take a quick look at those updates.

The main update is a darker graphite finish is now used on most interior accent trim pieces in those vehicles, which applies to all interior options.

As for the new finish option, Tesla has added a new ‘Oak Décor’ finish that comes with the ‘Cream Premium’ interior option – pictured above.

The finish is a bit lighter than what was previously offered in that interior option package.

Here are the current color combinations that Tesla offers for the Model S and Model X interior:

With this said, the Cream Premium and Black textile option (last two) are now being made unavailable for the Model S and Model X performance models.

Last year, Tesla started bundling interior finish options in order to create curated options and streamline its production process.

It resulted in buyers now having fewer choices when configuring the interior of the vehicle, but Tesla says that they are now choosing from pre-selected options that Tesla put together using data from years of selling the Model S and Model X and curating the interior options.

Tesla says that the changes to the interior are going into production today and current orders still in pre-production are being updated.

As for Model 3, only the black interior is currently in production and therefore, current buyers have no other option.

Model 3 vehicles with a white interior have been spotted in the wild and Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that it will be available during the second half of the year.

While no other option is currently available, Tesla did slightly update the Model 3’s interior during early production by changing the headliner material, which created a minor controversy with reservation holders.
