Site News: We now have a Patreon where you can support the site and get exclusive Electrek apparel

We are launching a new Patreon campaign to explore ways to help finance Electrek and lessen our dependence on display advertising that isn’t always great.

Advertising has so far been our primary way to keep the kids fed and do Electrek full time (for me) and part-time for a few contributors, but we understand that in this day and age some people don’t want to participate in the advertising industry.

We don’t expect our core model to change in the foreseeable future so please don’t block our ads, but we are open to try other methods and see where it leads us.

Rather than move to a subscription-only model, we set up a Patreon, which is a membership platform that makes it easy for an audience to pay content creators. Even without advertising it, we’ve gotten a few donations so that’s a great start!

If you read Electrek regularly and appreciate our work, you can head to our Patreon page (https://www.patreon.com/electrek) and become a patron starting at $1 per month.

For our more hardcore readers, we created two tiers that will get you exclusive Electrek apparel currently only owned by Electrek staff and a select few friends of the publication.

Depending on the reaction to the campaign, we will likely add other rewards over time including Tesla gear.

We also welcome suggestions on how to improve the campaign and the publication in general as we grow (and we are growing fast – see below).

And as we grow, we want to expand our coverage of the transition from fossil fuel transportation to electric and the surrounding clean ecosystems, like solar, wind, and energy storage, through our website, podcast, and videos.
