Tesla Model 3 software will be completed ‘soon’ and new voice command features are coming, says Elon Musk

Tesla still has a lot of work to do on the Model 3 user interface in order to adapt its apps to the new computer and screen.

CEO Elon Musk says that it’s the software team’s current focus, but it will be done “soon” and they will move to voice command features after that.

Over the last few weeks, Musk has been talking about upcoming Tesla updates and features as well as adding some new suggestions from users to the pipeline.

Last night, a Twitter user asked him about more voice command features in order to compensate for the fact that the Model 3 often requires driver inputs on the center screen.

Musk answered that drivers will eventually be able to do “pretty much anything via voice command” and that they will be adding “a lot more features”:

Definitely. You will be able to do pretty much anything via voice command. Software team is focused on core Model 3 functionality right now, but that will be done soon, then we will add a lot more features.

Tesla already has several voice command functions, like phone, navigation and media controls. Drivers can also do other things like reporting bugs via voice commands.

But the question was directly about “maximizing safety while driving”, which would mean new features.

Voice commands on Model S and Model X are definitely useful, but the features could certainly use more work.

As for “maximizing safety while driving”, I’m not sure what that could be, but things like setting Autopilot speed limit or TACC following distance via voice command could potentially increase safety.
