Mercedes has unveiled a new cabriolet all-electric concept as part of its ‘Vision’ design series at the Monterey Car Week.
The ‘Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet’ is Daimler’s idea of an “ultra-stylish luxury-class cabriolet” with an all-electric powertrain.
Powertrain
The vehicle is designed as a performance electric car with four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors enabling an all-wheel drive system and a flat battery back in the underbody.
They claim that the electric powertrain has an output of 550 kW (750 hp) with an acceleration from 0‑100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in under four seconds, top speed electronically governed at 250 km/h (155 mph), and a range of over 500 kilometres according to the NEDC (over 200 miles according to EPA cycle).
Daimler also describes a “visionary quick-charge function” for DC charging based on the CCS standard with a charging capacity of up to 350 kW.
Design
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG, explains the design:
“The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet takes modern luxury into the realms of the ultimate in luxury, and is the perfect embodiment of our design strategy. Breathtaking proportions combined with a luxurious “haute couture” interior help to create the ultimate experience,”
All the Maybach signature proportions ended up on the new concept, like the extremely long bonnet and boat tail.

Electrek’s Take
While we would prefer to see more affordable EVs come to market, all automotive segments need to be converted to all-electric powertrains and that includes large luxury cabriolets.
Unfortunately, Mercedes’ ‘Vision’ concepts are more design exercises than anything else – meaning most of them are not intended to make it to production and we don’t expect this one to be an exception.
What is encouraging though is that most of the automaker’s new concepts are all-electric.
Previous examples include the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, the Mercedes-Benz Vision Tokyo, and the Mercedes-Benz Vision Van.
Furthermore, Mercedes has some more serious efforts to bring all-electric vehicles to production with its new all-electric ‘EQ’ brand.
