Tesla expands charging infrastructure in Australia with new partnership and free at home charging

Tesla made several significant announcements last week regarding charging in Australia, which is becoming an increasingly important market for the company.

They announced a partnership to deploy destination chargers at 31 shopping centers across the country and offer one year of free charging at home to new owners.

Stockland announced that it is investing $200,000 to deploy the chargers at its shopping centers from Cairns to Melbourne.

John Schroder, Stockland Group Executive and CEO of Commercial Property, commented on the announcement:

“We know EV vehicles are part of the future and we look forward to offering more features like this to meet continuing Australian demand.”

Tesla drivers will be able to plug and get a charge for free at those locations, which will be using the Tesla Wall Connector – pictured above.

Furthermore, Tesla also announced a that it is now offering one year of free charging at home with AGL Energy, a local electric utility, for a limited time:

“To be eligible for Tesla to arrange for a year of free vehicle charging with AGL, should the customer choose to connect their electricity with AGL, the customer must purchase their Tesla vehicle prior to 31 July and take up the AGL Electric Car Plan before 31 August 2017. All existing orders (those who have not taken delivery of their vehicle yet) will also be eligible.”

The news follows the launch of the Powerwall 2 in Australia. Last week, we reported on one of the first installations in the country.
