Upcoming all-electric Jaguar I-Pace production design prototype spotted ahead of launch

The Jaguar I-Pace is one of the most exciting all-electric vehicles coming next year. The design of the concept has been really well-received and the specs are on par with other high-end all-electric vehicles planned for production in 2018-2019.

Only a few months away from the planned reveal of the production version, Auto Express spotted a prototype that reportedly features the final production design – pictured above.

The British automaker hasn’t been shy about showing its I-Pace concept over the past few months – the streets of London – Full Gallery.

But the fact that this prototype was heavily camouflaged is a good hint that it’s likely the production version.

Jaguar previously said that the concept will be extremely similar to the production version, especially since they planned a fairly short production timeline. The first prototype was shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2016, the production version should be revealed “by the end of 2017”, Auto Express now says that it’s planned for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017, and it is slated for production in the “second half of 2018”, according to the automaker.

As we previously reported, the I-PACE is equipped with a 90 kWh battery pack with a range of “over 500 km” NEDC-rated. Interestingly, the automaker has now confirmed “a targeted range of approximately 220 miles on EPA test cycles”.

They are currently only talking about 50 kW DC fast charging, which isn’t really “fast”. Hopefully, it will change before the vehicle hit production.

Aside from the fast-charging, the price is the biggest uncertainty.

It will undoubtedly be priced as a premium vehicle. Most industry watchers say that it will aim to be competitive with the Tesla Model X, Audi e-tron quattro and other upcoming electric SUV coming in the next 2 years, like Mercedes EQ Generation.

The new gas-powered Jaguar F-Pace SUV has a $42,000 MSRP and the company will likely position the I-Pace higher on its vehicle lineup.A starting price closer to $70,000 before EV incentives would be anticipated.
