Yesterday, a third Tesla Model 3 release candidate was spotted a month into the test program. All the prototypes were seen around the Bay Area in California – mostly near Tesla’s headquarters in Palo Alto.
Now a release candidate has been spotted outside of California for the first time.
Bradly D’Souza and Jordan Hart spotted a black Model 3 release candidate at a Supercharger in Cincinnati – 2,400 miles from Tesla’s headquarters.
Jordan posted a quick video of it on his Instagram and wrote:
Sighted a Tesla Model 3 during a late night supercharger stop in Cincinnati. Didn’t think I would get to see this car in person for at least 6 months or more… a rare treat! Geeked out and finally started recording but when I went to walk around the front of the vehicle they drove off.

It gives Tesla an opportunity to test the vehicle in other conditions than in Californian weather. Jordan told Electrek that the Model S following the Model 3 looked like it was a chaser car and it was carrying “hard pelican cases with gear in the back”.
Previously, Model 3 release candidates were spotted with both BMW and Model S sedans as chaser cars.
As for the vehicle, it looks pretty much identical to the previously spotted black release candidate. Jordan said that he spotted “a puck shaped sensor on the back trunk lid and another antenna hanging below the back bumper with some wiring.”
It’s not clear if Tesla drove the vehicle all the way across the country or if it was dropped off. Jordan told Electrek that he saw an enclosed trailer leaving the lot when he arrived.
It’s possible that Tesla dropped it off and now the vehicle will perform local testing or drive all the way back to California as a test.
If you are in the region, keep an eye out. Maybe you will get to see a rare Model 3 release candidate in person.
