Several Tesla vehicles destroyed and one dead in collision between two trucks in Germany

A tragic accident in Germany today left a truck driver dead and several Tesla vehicles destroyed. A truck crashed into the back of a delivery truck carrying half a dozen Tesla vehicles on the German Autobahn in Merklingen.

German paper Schwaebische reported that the traffic slowed down on the highway and the truck carrying the Tesla vehicles had to stop, but the truck behind it couldn’t stop in time and ended up rear-ending it.

The two-story vehicle carrying trailer left no chance to the truck driver because of the height of his cabin. He reportedly died on the scene while the other truck driver was uninjured.

Pictures from the scene show that several Tesla vehicles, especially a Model S and a Model X at the end of the trailer, were destroyed during the crash (credit to Alexander Woelfl via Schwaebische):

It’s likely to result in several deliveries being delayed in the region since at least two vehicles seem to be totalled, but several more could need significant repairs or also be totaled.

According to Schwaebische, the police estimated the damages at 720,000 euros ($772,000 USD) when accounting for the Tesla vehicles, the truck, and the trailer.
