GM delivered 1,162 Chevy Bolt EVs in January – need to increase the pace to hit annual goal

Today, GM released its delivery report for the month of January and confirmed that it delivered 1,162 Chevy Bolt EVs so far this year. It sounds like the vehicle is still production constrained since the company claims that it has “the fastest days to turn in the industry at 7 days.”

It’s still a significant increase from the previous month since GM delivered 579 Chevy Bolt EVs in December, but it only started production in mid-December.

As previously reported, the company was a little behind in the production of the all-electric car which was first expected to start in October 2016.

GM had previously guided about 30,000 units per year for the Chevy Bolt EV and therefore, it will need to double its delivery rate if it wants to meet the goal.

Surprisingly, the Bolt is already catching up with the Volt, which had only 1,611 deliveries last month – see full delivery numbers below.

So far, the automaker has only delivered the Bolt EV in volume in California and Oregon, but it also just started deliveries in Canada this week. Other US states will follow gradually during the first half of 2017 and European deliveries under the Opel brand will happen during the second half of the year, according to the automaker.

The Chevy Bolt EV has an EPA-rated range of 238 miles and it starts at $37,500 before EV incentives. Some dealerships in California have been price gouging the car with a markup of as much as $5,000 because of the quick days to turn, but it is still available at MSRP or even below in some dealerships. You will have to do some due diligence before buying if you are interested in the all-electric vehicle.

Our publisher Seth test drove the vehicle in California last week. You can read his review here: The Electrek Review: 2017 Chevy Bolt EV is the first Plug-in for everyone
