Electrek morning green energy brief: Solar power & poverty, Community Solar, India installing 10GW & more

[Editor’s note: We’re trying a new morning green energy briefing which should deliver every day by 9am ET. Please comment below]

Small amounts of solar power mean something for those in energy poverty – Real life outcomes have shown that small amounts of solar power given to the poor can create significant lifestyle value. Clean cooking, lighting, refrigeration, communication via cell phone and computing can all be done with very small amounts of solar power. And it changes lives.

The price of Solar Power & Wind has fallen so much that China feels it can safely lower incentives – China has very aggressive solar power growth goals – 110GW in the next five years. The returns on investment with the lower tariffs, it feels, will still generate great installation volume. I trust their judgment.

Community Solar – get to know it – This article was chosen simply because it was the first community solar article to come across my feed after I got a bug in me that you ought spend time learning about community solar in your local community. If your home/apartment/weird living situations doesn’t allow you to build solar – user owned community solar is your best bet.

10GW of solar in India next year – 25GW in China, 17GW in the USA, 10/10GW in Japan/India

Tesla’s Solar Gigafactory is moving along – Panasonic/Tesla have moved along in their agreements. Looking forward to this facility (have heard it can scale to 10GW)

Considering residential solar?  will connect you with local contractors. Full disclosure: I get a commission. Tweet me for feedback on pricing.
