Faraday Future unveils another teaser for first production-intent electric car with cameras instead of side mirrors

After releasing a teaser yesterday for its first production-intent electric car ahead of a planned unveiling at CES next month, Faraday Future has unveiled a second teaser today – this time revealing that the vehicle doesn’t have side-view mirrors, but cameras instead.

Several concept cars over the past few years have been unveiled with cameras instead of side-view mirrors in order to reduce blind spots and improve aerodynamic performance. The first concept of the Tesla Model X and the BMW i8 were unveiled without mirrors.

The feature was abandoned in the production version of both vehicles since no market actually allowed vehicles on the road without side-view mirrors at the time. After the unveiling of the Model X concept, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that he unsuccessfully lobbied US regulators to approve the future and argued that it improves safety.

Japan has since moved to approve the feature on its roads and other markets are reportedly looking to follow.

It shouldn’t be something that would stop Faraday Future’s electric car from making it to market anyway since it can be retrofitted relatively easily before going to production.

The two teasers put together gives us a better idea of what Faraday Future plans to unveil next month:

It looks like FF is certainly not going with a conventional design with this vehicle. It’s a bold move, especially considering the backlash of their first reveal.

In the new teaser unveiled today, the electric car startup also shows what could be the retractable LiDAR sensor that was spotted on the roof of its prototypes.

It looks different in this new teaser, but the position is the same. We also noted that they look a lot like the ones unveiled on a VW concept earlier this year:

The company will unveil at CES in Las Vegas on January 3rd.
