Even though Tesla just released a new report with the clear goal to pitch the SolarCity acquisition to its shareholders, CEO Elon Musk is now saying that he would be surprised if the merger wouldn’t pass at this point.

He even referenced the early votes which he described as “overwhelmingly in favor” of the merger.

Two months ago, we reported in exclusivity about a new program at Tesla called ‘Tesla Glass’. We admitted at the time that we didn’t know much about the program other than its director and the high level of secrecy surrounding it.

But now CEO Elon Musk confirmed that it’s a new “glass technology group” at the automaker and that the new glass technology will be featured in the upcoming Tesla Model 3.

Tesla pitches (again) SolarCity acquisition to its investors: ‘it will generate more than half a billion dollars cash’

In a document released after market close today, Tesla is trying to sell the SolarCity acquisition to its shareholders with some ambitious projections, including that the SolarCity will generate “more than half a billion dollars in cash over the next 3 years” for the new combined company.

Breakdown of raw materials in Tesla’s batteries and possible bottlenecks

Because of its name, lithium-ion (li-ion), people think that li-ion batteries are primarily made of lithium and that if we transition the world’s car fleet to electric, it will create a supply problem. While it’s certainly true that lithium demand is expected to rise significantly, which is why the price has spiked recently, the resource is abundant and production can keep up with the right investments.

But it would be a mistake to focus only on lithium. There are several other raw materials in batteries and they each can create bottlenecks if not properly addressed. We will look at an example with a Tesla Model S battery pack through an infographic embedded below.

Tesla pushes new update to fix some UI issues ahead of v8.1

As promised by Elon Musk last week, Tesla started pushing a new update to Model S and X owners in the past few days in order to fix a few UI issues – primarily with the media player. The latest update is not addressing the most important UI complaints, but it is expected to be the first of a series of updates to be released in the coming weeks.
