Experienced race car driver and Tesla owner Leilani Münter joins the all-Tesla championship: Electric GT

After unveiling its Tesla Model S P85+ modified for track racing last week, Electric GT, the all-Tesla and all-electric racing championship, started adding new race car drivers to its drivers club. The racing series has now 4 confirmed professional racers, after the announcement this week of their first American driver: the experienced race car driver, Tesla owner, and environmental activist, Leilani Münter.

Münter, who is currently racing in the ARCA racing series, joins IndyCar driver Stefan Wilson, Pro Mazda driver Vicky Priria, and former GP2 Series driver Dani Clos. Münter is definitely a great fit for the championship considering she has been involved with Tesla for a few projects, including recently with the documentary Racing Extinction by Oscar-winning director Louie Psihoyos.

She is already known within the Tesla community for fighting against the ban on Tesla’s direct sales model on two separate occasions. She herself owns a Model S, which is powered by a solar array at her house in North Carolina. As you can see from the picture above, she loves her Tesla.

The move to sustainable transportation is an essential step in the evolution of humans to live in a way that does not destroy the world around us. I have driven over 35,000 miles in my Tesla Model S, and all the electricity (with the exception of road trips) has come from sunshine collected by the solar panels on the roof of my home. – Leilani Münter

As a long time environmental activist and professional race car driver, there’s hardly a better match than an all-electric GT championship.

As we reported last week, Electric GT will begin in 2017. A season will tour seven major European circuits including Circuit de Catalunya and Nürburgring. A race weekend will consist of a 20-minute practice session and 30-minute qualifying session on the first day, followed by a 37-mile (60km) daytime race and another 37-mile race at dusk.
