You can now charge and plan charging for your electric car with Amazon Echo’s Alexa

The electric charging station maker behind the ‘JuiceBox‘, eMotorWerks, announced this week the integration of Amazon Echo‘s Alexa home automation technology into its charging station platform. It is now capable of monitoring and controlling the charging of your electric car with voice commands.

eMotorWerks says that the system is free for existing and new customers utilizing its advanced JuiceNet platform.

The company describes the concept in a press release:

“From the comfort of your couch you can ask Alexa, through Amazon Echo, “Alexa, what is my charging speed,” “Alexa, how much range do I currently have,” and much more.   This amazingly convenient technology is free with any JuiceNet account that works with networked JuiceBox electric car chargers from eMotorWerks.”

eMotorWerks sells two JuiceBox models equipped with WiFi for the JuiceNet system compatible this new “Alexa skill”:

JuiceBox Pro 40A WiFi-equipped Plug-in Electric Vehicle Charger / Charging Station with 24-foot cable and NEMA 14-50 plug – normally $738.00 now down to $599.00 on Amazon

The company also sells a more powerful 75A version – normally $1,199.00 now down to $999.00 on Amazon

The chargers work with the following models :

Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X, Nissan LEAF, BMW i series, Chevy Volt, Fiat 500e, Ford C-Max Energi, Ford Focus Electric, Ford Fusion Energi, Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid, Kia Soul EV, Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Cadillac ELR, Chevrolet Spark EV, Porsche Plug-in Hybrids, Smart Electric Drive, Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, Volkswagen E-Golf.

While eMotorWerks’s system with Amazon’s Alexa appears to be the first commercially available voice command charging system of the type, earlier this year, we reported on software developer MOSAIC working on a similar system:
