A new and much-needed 12-stall Tesla Supercharger is under construction in Montreal [Gallery]

Last month, we reported on Tesla already starting to deliver on their announcement made during the Model 3 unveiling event that the automaker will significantly expand its two networks of charging stations. CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla will double the number of Superchargers to 7,000 units and quadruple the number of Destination chargers to 15,000 units within the next 2 years.

Now Tesla is adding another location and starting construction of a much-needed 12-stall Supercharger in Montreal.

Tesla’s Montreal store and service center is one of the automaker’s biggest in North America. It is equipped with a 2-stall Supercharger which isn’t really useful.

This new location in the parking lot of Place Vertu, a mall in the center of the island and near the major highways, will be the first full-fledged Supercharger in Montreal and the second in Quebec. The company already operates a location in Drummondville, which is ideal to make the trip between Montreal and Quebec City on the south shore of the St-Laurent River.

The next logical step is new locations in both cities to facilitate the trip back and it looks like Montreal is already getting one, Quebec should be next.

TMC member Buzzz stopped by the construction site and he took a few pictures which he agreed to share with us:

The line to reserve the Model 3 in Montreal was among the longest in all of Tesla locations around world and Quebec is expected be an important market for the upcoming vehicle, which will require a charging infrastructure. This is a welcomed step in the process to develop this infrastructure.

Quebec is the leading province for plug-in electric vehicle sales in Canada with 45% of the total market even though the province represents only ~23% of Canada’s population.
