Footage from inside Tesla’s Gigafactory and new Elon Musk interview on HBO tomorrow [Teaser video]

HBO GIgafactory 2

While we’ve seen the exterior of Tesla’s Gigafactory from almost every angle – we even shared a time-lapse of its construction yesterday – we haven’t seen much of the interior of Tesla secretive battery factory.

A select few local media outlets were allowed to take pictures last month and then leaked pictures gave us a decent look at the Powerwall assembly line, but now we should be about to get our first official look inside the plant.

The next episode of Vice on HBO is scheduled to debut tomorrow (Friday, April 15 11pm ET) and it will include footage from inside the plant as well as a new interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

HBO describes the episode titled “The Future of Energy”:

“At the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris last December, world leaders agreed that climate change is an urgent threat, cementing green energy production as a new frontier of innovation. VICE founder Shane Smith takes an in-depth look at the future of how we make and use energy, and how we can meet growing demand as we cut carbon emissions.”

The episode is focusing on energy rather than transport and Tesla is currently manufacturing its home energy storage system at the Gigafacotry in Nevada, which explains why it is featured.

HBO sent us a teaser:

While Tesla and Panasonic plan to start battery cell production at the Gigafactory later this year, only Tesla Energy products (Powerwalls and Powerpacks) are manufactured at the plant. In October 2015, the company moved the Tesla Energy production line from its Fremont factory to the ‘Gigafactory 1‘ project in Nevada. Tesla has since been ramping up for volume production and we started seeing more energy storage projects being installed with Tesla Energy products.

I don’t have an HBO subscription. Was the episode worth signing up for a trial to watch?

Not if you’re interested in Tesla or the Gigafactory. Microseconds of coverage, no depth at all. You’ll find more on electrek.
