We recently wrote about Porter Harris for our piece on SpaceX’s battery development – Tesla is not Elon Musk’s only company developing high-tech battery packs – and also when covering Faraday Future since Harris joined the company as ‘Chief Battery Architect’ in November 2014, but today we learn via his LinkedIn profile (first spotted by Bloomberg) that he left the electric car startup just as it’s about to reveal its first concept.
His profile shows that he left Faraday Future in “January 2016” and his latest position is “CEO & Janitor” at Lotus Research And Development, which appears to be his own consulting and R&D firm operating as a sideline since October 2014.
Harris worked for Elon Musk’s SpaceX from 2010 to 2014. Several other SpaceX veterans joined Harris at Faraday including Erik Fleming, Director of Powertrain and Vehicle Electrics Purchasing at FF, former Director of Purchasing at SpaceX from 2011 to 2015, and Pablo Ucar, Purchasing Director Non Production and Manufacturing at FF, formerly Senior Director Supply Chain at SpaceX from 2011 to 2015.
Both Fleming and Ucar are still working for Faraday Future according to their LinkedIn profiles.
Faraday also employs several former Tesla employees including executives, but also several engineers and designers, including the lead designer of the Model S and X user interface Brennan Boblett who joined FF in October as “Creative Lead / UI + UX Design / Digital Product” according to his LinkedIn profile.
Boblett joined Tesla’s UI team as the lead designer in 2010 and became the team’s manager in 2012 before leaving in September 2015 to join FF.
Faraday is set to unveil its first car concept tonight at CES in Las Vegas. We possibly saw a leak of the vehicle this morning, but it’s unconfirmed at the moment.
