Over 500 people signed up for BlueIndy, Indianapolis’ all-electric car sharing program

After its first full month of service, BlueIndy announced that over 500 people have signed up for the all-electric car sharing program. The company is operating over 25 stations in Indianapolis hosting up to 5 cars each.

The price structure of the program is fairly simple. Drivers need to pay a 10$ per month membership fee if you sign-up for 1 year and then $4 for the first 20 minutes of use of a Bluecar and $0.20 per additional minute.BlueIndy General Manager Scott Prince on the announcement:

“Reaching the 500-member mark has special significance in the land of the Indianapolis 500 and it is even more significant to see the number of trips passing the 1500 mark. Our goal is to deliver a convenient, affordable and reliable transit option. The enthusiasm for our new service has been fantastic and many people have already commented on how BlueIndy helps them save money and time and enhances their mobility in the city.”

BlueIndy is a subsidiary of the Bolloré Group, which also runs a similar service in Paris under the Autolib brand. Both services use the group’s all-electric Bluecar.

Motor: 50 kW electric motor

Transmission: 1 speed

Battery: 30 kWh lithium polymer

Range: 160 city miles (250 km) – 93 highway miles (150 km) – 90 miles estimated EPA ratings (140 km)

Top speed: 81 mph (130 km/h)
